This is the first Fujiki of the year. It’s a little late, but Happy New Year. Thanks to all of the readers and listeners, you’ve been great. Really really great.
Q1. How did you cross into the new year?
A1. I was eating New Year’s ramen (they ran out of soba) with the other three in the common area backstage at Countdown Japan Festival when the countdown started. About ten seconds before the New Year someone or other started counting, and then we all joined in and shouted and celebrated. This year I crossed over with a bunch of people I don’t know. I think that was the first time I’ve ever done that. I usually stay at home and watch Kouhaku, but I really think that doing it this way isn’t bad at all. And we had performed for you guys right before that, so I was especially happy.
Q2. How did you spend the New Year’s holiday?
A2. I slept for most of it as I came down with a fever. I helped my niece (age four) with her finger painting. I got really into it, more so than I should have, and so if I was awake I was probably finger painting. I played Mario Kart with my nephews (elementary school). They’ve gotten pretty good, and I admired their skills, but of course I got really into it. So I served them a crushing defeat to make sure they know what true skill looks like. I felt better after a few days and went to an onsen with the band. We spent the entire night up playing Momotaro Dentetsu. That’s pretty much how I spent it. It went by fast, but it was fun.
Our new album Butterflies comes out on February 10th. The next day, on the 11th, we’re celebrating our twentieth anniversary with a live show at Makuhari Messe. Let’s have another great year.
